When should I start feeding my puppies actual puppy food and not mothers milk?

I have 7 puppies who are now about 2 1/2 weeks old still feeding off their mother. When should I start feeding then puppy chow and how should I start giving it to them?

You will start to notice that they are not nursing as much at around 6 wks. The mother will also start nipping at them when they start to develop teeth. At 6wks you can start them on a puppy food that you add warm water to. Make sure it gets soggy and is not too hot for them. They will still nurse but it will slowly transition them to eating solid food. By 8wks they should be completely weaned. If you are still unsure just call a vet for free advise over the phone. Almost all puppies have worms so you will need to take them to the vet for a worming as well as to get their first shots. The shots are VERY important in preventing many illnesses and diseases. Also do not let the puppies outside until they get these shots. They could be exposed to something deadly. You should also keep them away from too many people. Anyone that is around them needs to be sure to wash their hands before and after any contact. All of this info can be verified by getting a free consultation by any vet over the phone.
