try your local shelter. ask the people who work there about their dogs that fit your description. all dogs can be friendly, its all about finding the right dog for your family and that is up to you. if you want to learn about specific breeds you can go to the AKC website or animalplanet website. Christina D

Normally, the bigger the dog the easier and more friendly. ALSO if you get a puppy you will have to potty train it and give it regular training to no matter how good the dog breed.

If you want a really good dog i'd suggest a Labrador retriever. There affectionate, playful and good dogs BUT they do tear houses to pieces so I would suggest getting an older lad (3 or 4 years old). Another good breed would be a golden retriever. They are easy to train and well behaved. They are also extremely good with kids.

If you really want a small dog I have one thing to say... DON"T GET A CHIHUAHUA! They are mean and will only be nice to one person. A good small dog would be a pembroke welsh corgi. They are pretty easy to train and averagely playful. But unless you don't mind quite a bit of barking, don't consider this dog. Another accurately good dog would be a Yorkshire Terrier, it may be difficult to train and you would have to pay for grooming but they are pretty sweet dogs.

I can't tell you what dog is the best for your family that is up for you to decide. I really do suggest getting a medium to larger dog though. They normally are better dogs. But anyways, here are a few links that I consider to be pretty good when it comes to dogs:

You can look at pets that are for sale on this site. You can search almost any dog breed and chose the age, gender, and size of the dog you want and look at the dogs in your area.

This will give you info on different dog breeds

 Another dog info site.

You can see dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club here. Tsukiko

I don't know if this will help or not. But I've grown up with many different breeds of dogs as well as having some on my own & I found the best to be the American Eskimo. Please remember that this is just my opinion & dogs as well as people have their own personalities & I'm not dissing any other breed whatsoever. I have a lab/pit mix now & wouldn't change her for the world! You can also read up on breeds that you're interested in to find out more about them. There are also many, many dogs in shelters that are in desperate need of homes that are super friendly! Sometimes you can just tell which one will be a good match for your family. Good luck to you!! TINA
