What happens to dogs when they get neutered?
I was wondering what happens to dogs when they get neutered. I havent gotten my dog fixed and i really dont want to because i heard their attitude changes. I heard they dont play as much and calm down. I love my little jumpy dog and i wouldnt want him to change. So any comments or advice are helpfull…thanks
How do you care for them right after the surgery?

Well, my lab was recently neutered and he hasn’t calmed down a bit! He’s still the same silly labradork he was prior to the neutering.
Chat with your vet or breeder - they can also give you some good educated advice.

they still play, they just dont hump legs and have puppies anymore, trust me its worth it to get your dog fixed.

Basically its reproductive system is disconnected. Our dog’s personality didn’t change at all.

Neutering removes the testicles, which are the primary source of testosterone (the male hormone). This reduces their sexual urges and prevents them from creating unwanted litters of pups. It will keep them from running off when they smell a female in estrus.

Edit: Caring for them after surgery is not difficult. They are groggy from the anesthesia and sleep for awhile. They may move slowly for a day or two but after that they’re usually back to normal. Just give them plenty of rest for the first week until they heal. Vets do this surgery all the time, so if you have any questions, they’d be the best ones to answer.

Their attitude changes, but for the better. You will still have a happy-go-lucky dog that loves you and loves to play and romp around, but his actions will not be hormone driven. It is much safer for a dog to be neutered because you leave him at the risk of impregnating female dogs. Some behavioral issues will also become nonexistent.
Please; Be a responsible owner and do the right thing for your pup. Get him fixed and I assure you that you will still have your little jumpy dog as a playmate, not some dull, boring pup. (:
Good luck!

The removal of the testicles has nothing to do with how jumpy your dog is. He’ll be the same happy puppy without developing dominance issues, testicular cancer or those “inappropriate” behaviors. He’ll still lift his leg to pee, still be a male.

They don’t calm down. They stay the same time but they will be alot less chance for aggression and you don’t have to worry about your dog reproducing.
They just clip the balls, little shrimps pop out, they sew them back up, and they are good. They will be a little discomfortable for a couple of days but they are fine!
Get your dog Neutered, ignore everyone else!

Castration is *NOT* brain surgery!
NOTHING changes but it’s ability to reproduce.
TRAINING alters behaviors…not removing testicles.

the only changes that occour after a neuter are the hormonal changes.
The dog may be less agressive because there is less testosterone
the dog will be less likely to hump, mark, fight rival males, and make escape attempts
It does NOT make them less playful.. it doesnt change their activity levels.
It does make your dog more focused.. he’s less concerned about seeking mates and males to fight, so he’s more focused on YOU.

not a lot of activity will help the healing process… and it actually makes them more calm…It will have the same hyper-activity level fixed or not… so there’s nothing to worry about…
