What dogs are ideal for standing the heat?

amethyst.dancer asked:

I live in San Jose, CA, and, as you know, it’s summer over here. I need a dog who can stand the heat. I want a Siberian Husky, but I know California isn’t meant for dogs from the north. What I’m looking for is a big dog (not toy, and medium-sized could work), a sporting or working one. Any ideas on which dog ideal for a Californian like me?

def not a bully breed…..bullys overheat very quickly…that means anything with bulldog in its bloodlines

You could get a water dog of some sort but a dog with one coat and a short hair will do better in the heat than a long haired dog. And get a white haired dog instead of black or brown.

    Hello,
Pretty much any dog can stand the heat if cared for properly! Dogs sweat from their feet, so a good way to cool them off is letting them stand in water. Also make sure the dog has LOTS of access to drinking water and shade. Really any dog would suit you. But here are a few:
    Viszla
    German Shot Haired Pointer
    Basset Hound
    Beagle
    Coon Hound
    Enjoy!

Small sized dogs are more likely to stand the heat, but Italian Greyhound,Australian cattle dog, Dalmatian, Border collie or a cute Beaglecould work. But i think a Vizsla is what you’re looking for.
