Dogs and Puppies

Here is the problem,when my dog sees another dog he barks and cries because I think he is trying to get close.When he gets close he starts to growl and barks.I take him out for walks everyday and would take him to the dog park every weekend,but I stopped because he was aggressive towards other dogs.He is obedience trained.How can I get him to stop being aggressive?
He is a 11 month old Male German Shepherd.

I adopted my dog from the pound, and he has trouble getting along with some other dogs. He has no problem with small dogs or ones that act somewhat submissive–he actually likes them. But he will growl and snap at larger dogs. I can’t take him to Petsmart any more because of his behavior. What can be done to help this? Will obedience training help? Are there things I can work on with him at home until we do the training? He shows NO signs of aggression towards any people, only dogs. I don’t know his history, since we got him from the pound, but he does have scars on his leg that the vet believes were bites from another dog. Could this be part of the reason for his aggression? What are other reasons dogs are aggressive towards other dogs?

The vet believes he may have some pitbull mixed in. He is also already neutered.
I do keep him on a leash, but he will pull hard and stand on his hind legs to try and get at another dog, even if it is across the street.

Okay, so i’ve come to the conclusion that my dog is aggressive towards other dogs. I’ve watched training shows but i’m not sure if i can do what they do cause they’re pros at it and all. Any suggestions for helping a dog get over aggression towards other dogs?

I’ve had my dog for about 2 months now. I rescued him from a shelter, he came from an abusive background but he’s a great dog. He’s very aggressive with other dogs though. He growls when he’s near them and I’ve learned that it’s because he wants to get to know them but he doesn’t “introduce” himself properly. A month ago, he was attacked by another dog and it was horrible. I thought he was going to get killed. Thankfully, that didn’t happen but now I’m so afraid when I take him for walks or to the park. I feel like something like that will happen again and I won’t be able to get him out of the situation. The minute I see another dog, I take my dog and we leave. I can’t even enjoy my time out with him because I’m constantly looking for other dogs. What should I do?
