If the pup is just 1 month, its mother should be bathing it!

it can be given a bath with a mild puppy shampoo… absolutely NO flea/tick shampoo… that will make it sick.. those are only labelled for older puppies and dogs… be careful and don’t pour or spray water into his ears and be sure to keep the shampoo far away from his mouth, eyes, and nose… use warm, not hot water… when you start giving them baths at a younger age, it makes baths easier when they are larger :)

It is too young to have a shower. It should still be with the mother and she should take care of it. If something happened to the mom then you can wipe the pup off with a damp cloth.

Yes it is too young to take a shower. It could get very sick.

Personally I think that 1 month is too young to be given a bath. Unless the puppy is seriously smelly or rolled in it’s own you know what, your best waiting until the puppy is at least 2-3 months old. The puppy can get sick if the water gets in their ears, or if the water is too cold. If the puppy is small, your best off just using a warm, damp wash cloth to clean around their eyes, ears and anywhere else they are messy.
Dogs in general tend to get “Over” groomed which causes greasy coats, matted hair and knots.

I would suggest that you NOT bath the puppy that is only 4 weeks old.

At this age the mother should still be nursing, bathing and in some cases still stimulating their bow movements.

During the period that a pup is nursing, in addition to the nutrition she gets from the milk, she is also getting the buidling blocks for her immune system development from her mother.

In addittion to the immune system from the mother, at this age, they are just now building resistance to bacteria, virus’s etc. found in our environment. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

By bathing the dog, you are washing away the very things she needs during this very important development phase.

The mother will keep the pups clean right up to the point just before you wein them to solid food.

6-7 weeks is more appropriate time to begin the baths.

I’m glad you asked this question.

Is the pup 1 month old or have you HAD it for one month? If it is only 1 month old then the only place it should go is the vet’s for an immediate check up because it is too young to be away from its mother. If it is 8-10 weeks or older, you can give it a bath. Make sure you dry it completely- use a hair dryer set on low if the pup isn’t frightened. Otherwise use a huge beach towel to dry it.
