Raise your knee so the dog gets bumped in the chest, ,Then turn your back and ignore the dog. mauveme49

Taking them to obedience school and getting help would fix the problem. Keep them on lead when people come so they can’t do it, have them sit or lie down and stay and then reward them. If they can’t even sit or lie down and stay, you really really need obedience school. Troll Patrol

Keep them on a lead, step on the lead so that they can sit but not jump up. Alternatively put a longer lead on the door handle and string it under the door when people come to visit. The dog will not be able to jump up, and will have time to calm down. Sarah

tell them to turn their back and grab the dog and put them in a different room tell they get calm bring them back and do that in tell they don’t do it any more they will get the picture (the dog) never normal

you have to calm it down wen he jumps you touch a part of his body like his back nd tell him to stop i shushh my dog and it workd and wen you speak 2 it you have 2 be as intense as he is dont be afraid because he could smell if your afraid or not butt if he acts like that get in his space tell him to stop with emotion like your mad Erick

you need to train you first. Train your dog to the command sit or stay and when someone enters the room, use that command to keep the dog under control. Pulling the ears or stepping on its back feet give the dog pain and maybe, one day, the dog will connect the pain with what you want but that will take a long time. Teaching the dog to sit should only take practice over a weekend and the dog will obey. Try it and hopefully your life will get easier.

My 2 years old Shih Tzu ( Maxi ) does that too…When I tell him NO in a straight face. He stops.
Pulling his collar too hard can cause throat problems. Just give him a little tug and say no. He’ll
get it soon. Good luck! MAXI

When he jumps up say “off” or “down” and move you leg so that he has to put his feet down on the floor. when you try to correct this behavior with your hands he feels like he is getting pet and will keep doing it. shelly

Great answers guys. But no. If you know you are having company, leash your dog. Remain calm and assertive. Do not reward behavior with attention. Ignore. Promptly you need to put your dog in a sit or a sit down. And stay. It is a time consuming process breaking this behavior. There is no need to knee your dog or tie them out, or redirect. This is a habit that needs to be broke with steady training. If this is the only issue, obedience should not be necessary, however if there are more issues seek obedience classes. Central PA Labs

you tell them no in a strict voice and when they don’t put them into their cages or in another room. you can also just turn your back and ignore them Zie

peope must of pet the dog when he jumped, because somehwere along the lines the dog learned that he gets pet if he jumps, so in order to stop that if he jumps he needs to be pushed off, told no and ignored until the dog calms down then people can show it their attention, then the dogs mind will be re-programmed to think “ok when im calm i get the attention” Matt
