How to find out what kind of dog I have?

I recently purchased a small full grown dog from someone. They did not want the dog, bought it for their grandaughter and now have no use for it. Since I am a dog lover and hate to see a dog being kept in a cage. I offered to buy her from them. They agreed. They do not know what type of dog it is. Has a shot record, but nothing says what type.

It’s very small and have long straight hair. The size of the TACO BELL DOG (I can not spell it). Will the vet be able to tell me, what kind it is? Or do I have to go to a humane society or something like that?

The vet should be able to tell you. It sounds like it may be a Maltese, Yorkie, longhaired Chihuahua (the Taco Bell dog is a shorthaired version of the same breed), Papillon or a mix. iluvmyfrenchbulldogs

sounds like a dachshund or a chihuahua (taco bell dog) to me.

sounds like it could be a long haired chihuahua or a yorkie but the vet can give you a better idea, no one can tell you for sure because it could be a mix of something

The vet will be able tell you what breed (or breeds) The dog is. Also, you can look for dog pictures on the web and look for a resemblance. If it is a small dog with long hair, a yorkie mabey? hotcakesgrl8

If you can post a picture here. It does sound like a long haired Chihuawa. (I cant spell it either).lol

Sadly since it’s been the craze to have a small dog to carry around rather than love as a family member I hear more of this happening every day.
It maybe a long coat Chihuahua, (I have ) or it could be a mix.
If it’s a small dog you should not be wanting to breed it as breeding small dogs can be dangerous for them if you don’t know what you are doing and costly as they can often need c-sections. If you’re not breeding it really does not matter too much what it is as long as you love it, which obviously you do to have saved her (Bless your heart for doing that)
Your vet should be able to give you a pretty good idea as to breed, but I don’t think there is anyway for sure to tell without costly tests that I’m not even sure would be 100%.

Most Vets are familiar with dogs, I not know why, but, they seem to know.
If it a full bred then the Vet give a specific bred, or maybe a few. If, it is a mutt they even tell what they see in the dog, from the snout, ears, tail, tongue etc. But, only a really good vet know a mutt.
If you could post a picture (With the link) then people may be able to help more and not guess. snagelfritz

maybe it is a long haired chihuahua or quite possiby just a mixed breed sophylakes
