It depends on the county/state that you live in. Each state/county is different.

Depends on the municipality where you live, each one has their own rules.
Call them and ask.

It all depends on the laws where you live. My dad lives in NC and he has 4 dogs. In TN I’m not sure what it is but I typically don’t see people with more than 3. It depends on the laws where you live and ofcourse you will always run into hoarders, its sad but true

That would vary as to where you live. All you have to do is call your local city or county building and ask them.

Every state has different rules. Where I live, a kennel license is just cheaper to get if you own several dogs, than it is to purchase a license for each dog.
This has nothing to do with breeding. You can own a kennel license, and never breed dogs. Some people own several for hunting purposes, etc.
If the dogs are well taken care of, who cares how many they have living in their house?
Personally, I own 7 and am on a first name basis, etc. with my vet!

Laws vary from state to state. What I think is if you cannot feed clean up after and walk or exercise each dog then you might have to many.If the yard is not cleaned and stinks then its to many dogs.If the Quality of the dogs life is impaired in any way =its to many dogs. Some times 1 or 2 is to many for some people.Just for the record I know people who have 27 large to medium rescue dogs in there house but each dog is in excellent condition gets fixed and gets vet care gets loved and taken care of,of course they are busy 24-7 trying to keep things cleaned up,but its there choice so I say nothing.

It depends on the city or county ordinance. In some cities around me, a person must have a kennel license if he/she owns more than 4 dogs. A couple of city council members and one police officer in my city tried a couple of years ago to introduce an ordinance that would allow only 4 dogs and cats per househould combined. Luckily, it did not pass. I have 5 dogs, myself. In my opinion, you have too many when you cannot give them the love, attention, food, and vet care they need. For some people, one is too many. For other people, a dozen might not be.

I think it really depends on where you live. If you have a massive house and a lot of land, for instance, it may be appropriate to have at lease 5 dogs. But if you had a very small apartment, one or two dogs should be enough. Some states have different laws and only allow a certain amount of dogs. Search guidelines with the council where you live.
