How do you get a dog to leave the kitten alone?

mistymountain_999 asked:

I petsitted my cousin’s dog, Sierra, for 6 months because they lived in an apartment and couldn’t keep the dog in the apartment. While I had the dog, the dog killed her. I am petsitting Sierra again, I now have a new kitten, we can’t keep them seperate, so is there any way that I can keep Sierra from “playing” with my kitten?

Please don’t tell me to have the dog put down or anything I just want to know how to get them to get along or something.

I am only petsitting Sierra for a couple days, but I don’t want to take the chance in her doing that to my kitten again.
Thank you!

First time the dog meets with claws he may back up a bit.

Most dogs know what “no” means, be stern and tell him NO!

Be consistent with it and show attention to both equally.

The kitten has options of getting up and away from the dog.

If you have to get a crate and crate the dog. Crating would be the best option and would prevent harm to your kitten, which was there first and does not deserve harm.

    Good luck. Wise Guy!

Put up a baby gate so the dog can’t get at the kitten and the kitten can always escape. Some discipline for the dog would be a good idea, too. Dogs can and do get along with cats - they have to be taught what’s not acceptable. walkinglady

So you’ve been through this before with the same dog. You now have a new cat with, according to you, no way of keeping the two separate but your friend still asked you to watch the dog again?

What the hell kind of a friend is that? KJ
