amonia, you get it from the grocery store and it is cheap. just pour a little bit on the trash. if you happen to be out of that or can't find any, use a little bleach. swt_angel_82

They make a granule product called "Keep Out" or "Keep Away." They sell it at our local Red Barn pet food store. It is designed mostly for flower beds and gardens, but could be used in a garbage can too. It does have a slight odor, but not too bad. It worked great for our pets. Noodle

Well, you may want to take the dog to a vet, beacause they will give him a certain vitamin/mineral, because he is not getting that mineral in his body, so he eats the garbage. My sister's dogs eats rocks ALL THE TIME. The vet gave us a substitute vitamin, and he hasnt ate rocks for 3 weeks already. Hope I've helped! : ) trailmix202

Try using a few tablespoons of bleach in the garbage. Also good for when you put garbage outside in plastic bags to put a little bleach in there before tying up. kitsy_bridges

Try putting pepper or hot sauce on the garbage and let him/her go at it. There are also sprays available in pet stores - but I find the odor so bad I can't stand to be in the same house with the spray. SANDY

Try feeding him dog food and then maybe he won't need to scrounge in the garbage!

Remember to try and feed him at least once a week or he will start looking for the garbage again. jbirdy2007

My one year old dog used to do that in the bathroom, we keep the door open and still do, just make sure you watch them and if you see that they are going for the trash, scold them! They eventually catch on that it is not a good thing to do... also, you could by the covered garbage cans (small or large) to keep them from getting into the garbage! and my dog loves hot sauce, but the bitter apple spray typically works for most dogs! Good luck... fatty_mcbutterpants
