Is your dog outside alot? If so, then don't do anything! We have shoes to protect our feet--they need tough pads to reject anything from penetrating into their feet. The pads ARE the soles of their feet, their protection from everything. Its like taking your soft baby skin bottomed feet and throwing you in the woods to walk around-ouch! Most dogs feet have hard pads. Now, if your dog is an inside dog and only goes outside to relieve himself then that is different. You could try some vaseline, or just regular lotion. He said that if they were softened, the dog would have difficulty walking on rough surfaces, rocks, etc. I suppose it would be OK if he never goes out and then I would just use Vaseline and put little socks on his feet until they get softer. I am sure other people have had the same problem and must have some solutions that will work for you.
