Dog Toys?

Does anyone have any ideas for dog toys that we can buy??? My dogs LOVE bones but they chew them for 5 mins. and they are all gone!!! So, I bought them ostrich bones and they worked for a long time but I was looking for something else. They are two big dogs so the itty bitty bones won’t work. Anybody have ideas

my dog can make a cow femur section last quite a while if a chew toy is what you’re after. you can buy them with tasty fillings from most pet stores, or you can usually find the really tasty (to dogs) raw ones with all the marrow at a butcher’s or grocery store. Pig bones also do pretty well. I don’t think there’s anything that will stand up to a heavy chewer for too long, but hopefully you’ll find something that will last a few weeks!

Kongs. Those toys are awesome. They’re heavy rubber and bounce everywhere. You can also fill them with treats that your dog has to work to get out or you can fill them with peanut butter….that’s always fun to watch ha. They have them in different sizes and in red (which is softer to chew) and black (harder to chew). The first time I saw them, I was watching them train military bomb sniffing dogs on Animal Planet and decided if it works for them then it’ll work for my beagle. She loves it and is her favorite toy now. Also she’s had it for over a year and this is a dog that has chewed through a heavy duty extension cord before. sweetie_tdp

I don’t approve of giving dogs any kind of bone, because the bone can splinter and cause damage BUT….
Since most people never listen to that bit of advice, there is a product called Dino-Bones. They come in sizes from very tiny to humongous and the dogs love them. You’d have to check on line for them because the last time I went looking for them that is the only place I could find them.
The best chew toy, however is a KONG. Hard rubber, they last forever and they too come in sizes and they don’t splinter. rmfly

These toys are a bit expensive but they aer worth every single penny you put out on them. Other than being lost, they last forever. Dogs have a very very hard time destroying them, I have had much experience.

LOL Sweetie has it… Congs you can throw them and they bounce all over in unexpected ways.. dogs go crazy for them
but… Sweetie… PEANUT BUTTER? You are a sick woman… lol. That is devious and so darn cute. Thank you thank you thank you.
They last forever. Our poodles go wild so we throw them downhill from the balcony. 3 Very healthy active farm dog standard poodles. We breed em. This wears them out for maybe a half hour. But the peanut butter… gotta love that idea.
They get lost.. and a month or three later get found in the bush… a bit dirty but they can withstand the worst treatment a dog can dish out and still look good at the end of the day. Barbara L

The kong toys are excellent. I have 2 dogs, both retrievers, and they love these. They chew on them, throw them, fetch them, just love them.
Yes they are quite expensive but they do seem to be very durable and long lasting. Jean M

I’ll second the Kong suggestion. I fill them with plain yogurt and put them in the freezer, and give them to my dog when I put her outside. It takes a while to get the frozen yogurt out. Peanut butter is good too.
Also, you could try rawhide bones made out of a series of compressed rawhide sheets - they last longer than the knotted kind, and my dog who won’t touch knotted rawhide bones loves the compressed kind.
They also come in a kind with a strip of meat mixed in, to keep the dog interested:
I stay away from real bones - my last dog cracked a molar on one and ended up needing to have a veterinary dentist extract the molar and fill in his jaw because the missing tooth would have left such a huge gap in his jaw. Very expensive lesson. Bess2002

i have to agree with the crowd
kongs are great, there is another toy i want to say it’s called orca? that I’ve gotten for my dog she’s not real interested in chewing though . . . otherwise the large fresh bones from a butcher would be your best bet . . . unless they’re chewing on other things bones should be given mostly as a treat or a distraction
a side note some dogs chew when they are bored, make sure they are getting a enough exercise m_kindlund

Kongs are great, but I have found them to be a little too small. Check out this one (same type) but bigger and interactive…
