At what age can a puppy start getting baths? And how often should you bathe it?
I just bought a Lhasa Poo puppy. He is eight weeks old. I’ve only had him for 3 days and I’ve been wiping around his eyes, mouth, bottom, etc. with baby wipes, but I was wondering at what age did you all start actually bathing your puppy and how often should you do it? Also, does anyone know of the best brand of puppy shampoo? I want something gentle but effective.
Thanks for all your help!

The earlier you start bathing them the better - It’ll get the puppy used to being groomed and will be a lot easier as the dog gets older and stronger.
Use a mild, tear-free puppy shampoo - You can even use J&J Baby shampoo.
You should only wash it about once a month, or if it starts to stink (The “Smell” actually smells like Corn Chips!). Washing it too much will dry out its skin.

a puppy can start getting baths from the time they are two months old ie 8 weeks. that goes for any breed of puppy. a bath once a month will take care of most of your problems without drying out puppies skin too much. plus there is a line of doggy spa stuff at Petco that smells like normal human stuff but is made for dogs so as not to destroy the natural oil in their skin. am partial to the vanilla myself.

Its really up to you which brand of puppy shampoo to use. Definitely go with something mild, gently and tearless. And if they get fleas, don’t use a shampoo, got to a vet. They have a pill for little bitty puppies like yours. The chemicals in the flea shampoos can hurt the puppy and possibly even kill them from accidentally ingesting it. And you may have heard of using Dawn Dishwasing Liquid for fleas, which does work as it smothers the fleas, but it can also dry the puppies skin out just as any frequent use of any kind of shampoo can. You can start bathing him as soon as you want, just make sure to check the back of the bottle to see if there is an age reccomendation\limit. Some say stuff like for puppies as young as 10 weeks or older. But there are some for younger than 10 weeks. Also when in doubt ask a store employee to help you, and see what they recommend from the store. I personally have used and like the Perfect Coat Brands which are OK, Any of the Veterinary Formulas I like better, and my all time favorite right now is The Tropi-Clean Line, which smells awesome! I posted some links for you. I don’t know if you have a Petco pet store nearby you, but I found all of these shampoos there, and the Perfect Coat brand at Petsmart and Petco. Good Luck, and hope you are able to get your new puppy all nice and clean!
