Dogs and Puppies

Well, my female Shih Tzu, Poochie, is in heat, and I left her loose with one of my male Shih Tzu pups, Sammie for the past week. My daughters told me that they mated at least 5 or 6 times. So, how many puppies will I have?

If I have done my adding right, the puppies should be born in late November, so they would be about 5 weeks old on Christmas! Can I sell them then? And, do you charge extra if they are ready for Christmas?

Cindy, do you really think 10? Her first litter was 9 and her second one was 7, although I lost one pup from each litter.

I though 5 weeks should be fine. That is how one my other female, Hershey, was when I got her!

If you want one, I’ll save you a male. I heard something about not mating a female with a larger male for one reason or another, so I think an male would be better for your labs. Would you like me to teach him to use a ladder, just to help you out?

I’m crate training and everything seems to be going smoothly until nighttime. I have two puppies almost 4 mos. Every 3-4 hours I have been getting up and bringing them downstairs (separatly) to go potty. (12:30, 3:30, and we are up for the day at 5:30am) This is beginning to wear me out. If I ignore it they cry and howl for more than 40 minutes and I can’t stand it. Aren’t I getting them into the habit of going every 3-4 hours and how do I lengthen that time?

My puppies are brother and sister. The male drags the female around by the ear, among other things. He is really mean to her. He is neutered, and she is spayed, so this isn’t the problem. I also have 2 adult dogs of the same breed (mini schnauzer) and he doesn’t bother them. He’s a little too young for obedience training (just over 6 months) but I’m afraid he’s going to hurt his sister. Vet bills are all ready expensive, and they are registered dogs, so I don’t want ‘anyone’ hurt. Any advice? Not willing to use physical punishment, either.
Good advice so far…but I can’t seperate them. That just isn’t feasible. He isn’t trying to hurt her, I know, but he is very rough. She has squealed like a banshee on more than one occasion. I don’t think caging them is healthy.
